Welcome ~ Bienvenidos!
Centro Ashé is rooted in promoting and protecting food sovereignty, local food and medicine, as well as social, ecological, and economic justice.  We work in Washington DC Metro Area and Talamanca, Costa Rica.  We seek to build an engaged community through organizing as well as connecting people with popular educational activities focusing on culture and arts, health, sustainability, and justice. Ashé is a word and a concept that comes out of several traditional cultures and means the Spirit behind movement, a catalyzing and creative energy, some have called it pure energy in motion.  Through our programs we focus on holding space for this energy of creation to be explored and amplified.  Ashé!

We challenge current agricultural policy that views agriculture as purely an economic activity seeking efficiency and profit over livelihood, taking the family and community, the stability, out of the farm and replacing it with external inputs and specialization that result in dependency, ecological, and cultural damage, and a precarious food system that lacks diversity.  We work in solidarity with communities to protect and strengthen food sovereignty as part of an alternative and a solution to issues that many face across the globe.

Centro Ashé is a vision in progress, and as we move forward we are looking for interested individuals who would like to be involved in continuing this vision into the future. Please contact us if you are interested in getting involved!
