About your Guides
Molly Meehan has spent much of
the last several years working in sustainable agriculure in Talamanca, Costa
Rica and working for such organizations as Punta Mona Center for
Sustainable Living and Education, Foro Emaus an organization doing
advocacy on the workers rights as well as environmental issues on the
banana plantations in Costa Rica, and ANDAR a small women's cooperative
organic medicinal plant farm located in Guapiles, Costa Rica. She also coordinated internship as well and group tour programs for Punta Mona for several years. Most
recently Molly received her Masters Degree in Sustainable International
Development from the School for International Training in Vermont, and
her thesis work focused on Food Sovereignty in Talamanca, Costa Rica.
She has a strong dedication to social, ecological and economic justice
and is passionate about sustainable food systems. Molly currently works
doing community outreach and education as well as coordinating various
food justice programs at the Accokeek Foundation located outside
Washington DC. She also helps coordinate Centro Ashé programs based out of Centro Ashé Farm in Bryans Road, MD. More information can be found on www.centroashe.org
About the Activities:
Finca Loroco - Finca Loroco is a family owned farm operated by Gonzalo Moreno and his wife Mauricia Vargas in BriBri, the Indigenous Capitol of Talamanca, Costa Rica. "Vision of Finca Loroco: Our vision is that this project is to develop into a center of learning and knowledge sharing, which goes hand in hand with community development and awareness about the importance of cultivating the land and care for nature."
Punta Mona Center for Sustainable Living and Education - Punta Mona is an 85 acre off the grid, family owned environmental education center, botanical collection, permaculture farm and eco lodge, dedicated to sustainable ways of living and alternative learning. The mission at Punta Mona is to expose all people who come to the farm to the ideals of Permaculture and educate about sustainability. Punta Mona does this while living sustainably, off the grid and communally. The ideals of sustainability, conservation of energy and reduction of waste permeate our everyday lives. The houses are built from local, fallen trees, solar panels provide our electricity, we compost our leftover food, make our own dirt and our chickens provide eggs for us to eat. To support the diet and local communities, we grow over 100 tropical fruits, vegetables, herbs, medicinal plants and shop locally. The washing and drinking water is collected rainwater from our water-catchment system.
El Yue - These ecologically-minded women protect their way of life by sharing with you their medicinal garden, organic greenhouse, and how pig waste can produce fuel! This women’s group initiative comprised of banana and vegetables growers has developed alternative activities to allow them to improve their standard of living while being eco-friendly. Visiting this project benefits local families and local development while promoting nature conservation efforts, such as reforestation, environmental education, environmental crime watch.

Omar Cook Campbell - Bucus Tours
Andy Cook Campbell - Chef Andy Cook Campbell grew up on the Talamanca Coast of Costa Rica where he grew, harvested, and caught the majority of the food he and his family cooked at home in their kitchen. Andy has carried on that tradition during his years working in famous Costa Rican Restaraunts including his hometowns Maxi’s, Arrecífe, Shawanda and more. Today Andy is as dedicated as ever to incorporating fresh, local, and sustainably grown ingredients from our area, while maintaining his signature Caribbean Latin flavor.
